FORERUNNERS OF IACLALS

Prof. C.D. Narasimhaiah was the First Chairperson of IACLALS (1974-1993).

Brief Bio:
Closepet Dasappa Narasimhaiah (1921–2005) was an Indian writer, literary critic and the principal of Maharaja’s College, Mysore. Narasimhaiah was best known for his literary criticisms and for bringing out an abridged version of Discovery of India of Jawaharlal Nehru, under the title, Rediscovery of India. He was a recipient of the Rajyotsava Prashasti honor of the Government of Karnataka. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan, in 1990, for his contributions to literature.

 

Prof. Meenakshi Mukherjee was the Second Chairperson of IACLALS (1993-2005).

Brief Bio:
Meenakshi Mukherjee (died 16 September 2009, aged 72) was a litterateur and Sahitya Akademi Award winner. Mukherjee received the Sahitya Akademi award in 2003 for her book The Perishable Empire: Essays on Indian Writing in English. She taught English literature and Critical theory at a number of colleges in Patna, Pune, Delhi and University of Hyderabad. Her last and longest spell was as Professor of English in the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She was a visiting professor in several universities outside India, including the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Chicago, the University of California at Berkeley, Macquarie University (Sydney), the University of Canberra and Flinders University (Adelaide).

Prof. Harish Trivedi has served as the Third Chairperson of IACLALS (2005-2014).

Brief Bio:
Professor Harish Trivedi, formerly Professor and Head of the Department of English, University of Delhi, is an eminent international scholar of post-colonialism and translation studies. He is currently a member of the Advisory Council of the Comparative Literature Association of India (CLAI).
Professor Trivedi was the visiting Professor at University Of Chicago U.S.A. and School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London in the year 2002.

Prof. Trivedi has also delivered lectures at all prestigious Universities within India such as the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), JMI, EFLU, AMU to name a few, and abroad like, University of California Berkeley, the University of Georgia at Athens, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Chicago (a series of four lectures), the University of Alberta at Edmonton, the Murdoch, Curtin, Melbourne and Wollongong universities (all Australia), the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, the University of Ghent, University of Palermo, and various universities in Europe, China, Japan, and South-East Asia.

He has authored several books, book chapters, journal articles, essays and encyclopaedia articles, popular articles and book reviews. ​Some of his representative publications are:

Prof. GJV Prasad has served as the Fourth Chairperson of IACLALS (2014- Feb. 2020).

Brief Bio:
Professor G.J.V. Prasad recently retired as Professor of English from the Centre for English Studies, School of Language Literature and Culture Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. He has been a part of several academic organizations of international repute, including IASA.
 
With four decades of teaching experience, Prof. Prasad’s major research interests are Indian writing in English, Indian Literatures, Contemporary Theatre, Dalit Writings, Australian Literature and Translation Theory.  Prof. Prasad has edited JSL, the prestigious Journal of the School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies of JNU for the past several years. More than seventy students have completed their doctoral work under his supervision so far, and a similar number of M.Phil. students have completed their dissertations.
 
Prof. Prasad has been a Visiting Professor and Visiting scholar  in India and abroad including University of Paris, University of Cyprus, Nicosia, University of Essex, Colchester, UK, Grinnell College, Iowa, USA.
He has an astounding number of national and international publications and conference presentations to his credit. Some of his latest publications are:
